MODUS OPERANDI BREWING CO

Modus launched onto the craft beer scene in winning style in 2014, scooping more trophies at the Australian Craft Beer Awards than any other brewery. With incredible beer and a burgeoning cult following, the Modus brand needed to better reflect their values and equip them with a visual identity needed for the fast growth ahead. The approach was to shake up the craft beer category and move away from the expected visual language of the scene, which meant no hops, wheat or ‘hipster’ graphics.

BEER FIRST. NO SHORTCUTS.

A core belief of ‘beer first, no shortcuts’ was developed, and this inspired the confident, continuous line of the Modus brand, a mark that goes the long way round from start to finish. It’s a singular statement, a method diagram, a cult symbol for a brewery defining the future of Australian beer.

STICKY BUSINESS

A cost effective tap badge system was developed, with one common metal tap badge plate and removable stickers printed for each beer type. Stickers were then also used on posters and event marketing. This also echoed the execution of the retail can, providing strong visual consistency across the brand.

With beers and brewers having such big personalities, we also wanted to create opportunities wherever we could for a witty tone of voice to shine through.
